Committed to water and environmental conservation, Prahlad Singh Patel is an Indian politician who has been continuously active in protecting and nurturing the origins of Madhya Pradesh’s sacred and life-giving rivers, as well as in promoting cow welfare.
Born on 28 June 1960 in Gotegaon (Shridham), Narsinghpur district, Patel served as Minister of State for Coal in the government of the revered Atal Bihari Vajpayee. In 2019, after being elected to the Lok Sabha, he became Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism in the Modi government, and later served as Minister of State in the Ministries of Food Processing and Jal Shakti.
Prahlad Singh Patel was elected to the Lok Sabha for the first time in 1989 (9th Lok Sabha), again in 1996 (11th), 1999 (13th), 2014 (16th), and 2019 (17th), thus becoming a five-time Member of Parliament.
He is committed to a value-based vegetarian lifestyle and complete prohibition of alcohol, and is a member of the ‘Vegetarian Council Committee’. Guided by his spiritual mentor, Shri Shri Babashri Ji, founder of ‘Nirvikar Path’, Patel has been a dedicated traveler devoted to the preservation of Indian art and culture, rural development, and farmers’ welfare.
He is also the founder of ‘Jararudham Cow Sanctuary’ in Ramnagar, Batiyagarh (District Damoh), as well as ‘Narmada Khand Seva Sansthan’ in Bahoriband (District Katni, Madhya Pradesh). Read More
Patel wrote the book during his Narmada Parikrama. He undertook Narmada Parikrama twice on foot. In 1994 and in 2007, he performed Narmada Parikrama.
